Cyclops Joins the x402 Foundation to Accelerate Agentic Commerce for Payments Companies

AI agents are no longer just glorified search engines. They’re searching, comparing and buying on our behalf, and the payments industry is racing to keep up. McKinsey projects agentic commerce could orchestrate $3 trillion to $5 trillion in global revenue by 2030, putting its impact on par with the web and mobile. x402, the open protocol that lets software pay for things over the web, recently processed about 75 million transactions in a single 30-day period, and Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Adyen are among the companies backing it.

That’s why we’re excited to share that Cyclops has joined the x402 Foundation. Agents are quickly becoming customers in their own right, and the companies that process payments today are laying the groundwork for their commerce journeys. As a member, Cyclops will work alongside the other companies building on x402 to shape the standard.

What is the x402 Foundation?

The x402 Foundation is the home of x402, an open standard that lets anyone, including an AI agent, pay for something online the moment they ask for it. Payments settle in stablecoins in about two seconds, with no account setup or manual approval. It’s the settlement Cyclops already powers for payments companies, extended to a new kind of customer.

Coinbase launched x402 in 2025 and in 2026 moved it to the x402 Foundation, hosted by the Linux Foundation, so that no single company controls it. Its members include payment processors, card networks, cloud providers and stablecoin companies, all working together to shape where the standard goes next. Cyclops joins them as the infrastructure partner focused on payments companies.

Why we’re joining

Agentic payments introduce a new kind of customer: agents that autonomously pay for data and services in small amounts, many times a day, without a person approving each charge. If payments companies brace for this change, that volume will still run through the payment providers that merchants already trust. For that to happen, payments companies need open standards they can build on, and a say in how those standards are written.

That’s what the Foundation offers. Because x402 is governed in the open, the companies that move money today can help decide how agents will pay tomorrow. And because x402 settles in stablecoins, it runs on the layer Cyclops is purpose-built for. Our single API lets payments companies accept, hold, convert and settle stablecoins alongside the systems they already run.

As a member, we’ll bring that payments perspective to the Foundation’s work, focused on three areas:

  • Merchant-ready settlement. Agent-initiated payments should reconcile, settle and report like the rest of a merchant’s volume.
  • Compliance built in. Payment providers operate under licensing, KYB and AML obligations. Open standards should make those easier to meet.
  • One integration, not many. A shared standard means providers can support agentic payments once, instead of building a new connection for every agent framework or network.

What’s next

Moving forward, Cyclops will be contributing to the Foundation’s working groups, sharing what we learn with our partners and publishing more on how stablecoin infrastructure and x402 fit together for payments companies.

“Everything we build at Cyclops is built for a future where a larger and larger share of commerce is done by agents. Most payments companies aren’t ready for this future yet. In just a year, having AI-optimized payment products and commerce experiences will be table stakes. Companies need to prepare now to avoid being left behind.” Alex Wilson, Co-Founder, Cyclops
