Troubleshooting

Your browser does not have permission to use your camera or microphone

Google Chrome:

  1. In the browser header, click the Camera icon.
  2. Select the Always allow check box, and then click Done.
  3. Reload the Cyclops page.

Firefox:

  1. In the browser header, click the Camera icon.
  2. Click the unblock icon to unblock permissions
  3. Reload the Cyclops page, and allow mic and camera permissions

Safari:

  1. In the browser header, click Safari -> Preferences.
  2. On the Websites tab, click Camera.
  3. Select the Allow check box next to rooms.cyclops.io.
  4. Click Microphone.
  5. Select the Allow check box next to rooms.cyclops.io.
  6. Reload the Cyclops page.

Internet Explorer:

  1. Camera
    1. Go to Start, then select Settings > Privacy > Camera
    2. Choose your preferred setting for Allow apps to access your camera.
    3. Under Choose which apps can access your camera, select on for Microsoft Edge.
  2. Microphone
    1. Go to Start, then select Settings > Privacy > Microphone
    2. Choose your preferred setting for Allow apps to access your microphone.
    3. Under Choose which apps can access your microphone, select on for Microsoft Edge.
Users in the room do not see you
  1. Ensure that video is not paused; users can resume video by clicking the the unpause icon in their video tile.
  2. Ensure the right camera is selected
    1. In your video tile, click the Settings icon.
    2. Select the camera that you want to use.
  3. If you are on a Mac, the OS process that accesses your camera might be hanging:
    1. Open the Activity Monitor by searching for it.
    2. In the search bar, enter VDCAssistant, and then double-click the search result.
    3. Click Force Quit.
    4. Reload the Cyclops page.
  4. If the issue persists, close all instances of your browser, and then reopen the Cyclops page.
  5. If all else fails, restart your computer.
Users in the room do not hear you
  1. Ensure your microphone is not muted; users can unmute by clicking the the unmute icon in their video tile.
  2. Ensure the right microphone is selected
    1. In your video tile, click the Settings icon.
    2. Select the microphone that you want to use.
  3. If you are on a Mac, the OS process that accesses your mic might be hanging:
    1. Open the Activity Monitor by searching for it.
    2. In the search bar, enter coreaudiod, and then double-click the search result.
    3. Click Force Quit.
    4. Reload the Cyclops page.
  4. If the issue persists, close all instances of the browser, and then reopen the Cyclops page.
  5. If all else fails, restart your computer.
You do not see another user in the room
  1. Ensure that the user selects a camera.
  2. Ensure that video is not paused; users can resume video by clicking the the unpause icon in their video tile.
You do not hear another user in the room
  1. Ensure that the volume on your device is enabled and turned up.
  2. Select an available speaker.
    1. In your video tile, click the Settings icon.
    2. Select the speaker that you want to use.

FAQ

Is Cyclops free?

Video conferencing functionality in Cyclops is always free. We'll be adding premium paid features over time.

How do I invite people to join a room?

To invite people to an unlocked room, send them the URL to your room and begin collaborating immediately.

To invite people to a locked room:

  1. In the footer of your Cyclops room, click the Invite user icon.
  2. Enter the email address of the person you want to invite.
  3. Wait for users to click the link in your email invitation and create a Cyclops account with their email address. Approved users can join your room at any time.
How many users can I fit into a room?

Cyclops supports up to 8 users in a room, based on the computing power of each user's device.

How secure is my communication on Cyclops?

Cyclops supports end-to-end encryption. We use peer-to-peer transmission for all video streams, so that your content never goes through a server.

Can I reserve a room?

By default, any room that you create while you are logged in to Cyclops is claimed, or reserved, by you. No one else can create a room with the same URL.

If you are not logged in to Cyclops, click Claim in the footer of your room.

How can I improve poor video quality?

Quality is primarily determined by your available bandwidth. To identify the users who have low signal strength, hover over the user names in your room. If your bandwidth is low, turn off video to improve audio quality. All users can plug in a network cable to improve the stability of their network connection.

Why are you named Cyclops?

Because your camera has one eye. When cameras are stereo, I guess we'll have to change our name.
